ETH 2.0 is a set of interconnected upgrades based on the current ETH ecosystem, transitioning from the existing Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism to a Proof of Stake (PoS) mechanism, making it more scalable, secure, and sustainable. The tentative upgrade process will consist of four phases: the launch and operation of the beacon chain, the implementation of a sharding structure, upgrades to the sharding chains, and overall optimization of ETH 2.0.
