| Coin Intro | "LPT, fully known as Livepeer Token, is the protocol token of Livepeer, an Ethereum blockchain-based, open-source platform for video streaming, launched on December 20, 2018. The total supply is 11,198,133 LPT.
Livepeer technology enables users to capture video from a camera, phone, screen, or webcam and send it to the Livepeer network. Nodes operating within the network encode it into all necessary formats to reach every supported device. Users running these nodes are incentivized by fees paid by broadcasters in ETH, and have the opportunity to build reputation through the protocol token, securing more work in the future.
The LPT token is the protocol token of the Livepeer network. However, its not a medium for exchanging tokens. Broadcasters use Ethereum’s Ether (ETH) to broadcast videos on the network. Nodes contributing processing power and bandwidth receive ETH in the form of broadcaster fees. LPT is a staking token that participants stake to coordinate work distribution on the network and provide security to ensure tasks are completed accurately and honestly.
Founding Team and Background of LPT:
Founder and CEO: Doug Petkanics. He is an entrepreneur and software engineer who co-founded Wildcard and Hyperpublic, serving as vice president at both companies. Hyperpublic was acquired by Groupon in February 2012. He is passionate about the challenges facing blockchain and decentralized technologies, as well as the challenges involved in building, leading, and scaling effective engineering organizations.
Co-founder and CTO: Eric Tang. With 18 years of development experience, he co-founded Wildcard in 2013 with other founders. The companys product was a mobile web browser that could turn any webpage into a native mobile experience, powered by a data pipeline that crawled, analyzed, learned, and built webpages for API use and interaction.
