The OXEN coin is the cryptocurrency of the Loki privacy network. It was launched on May 21, 2018, with a total supply of 35,150,000 LOKI.
OXEN is a project that employs a hybrid Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, primarily aimed at anonymous and private transactions. It also supports the development of applications on its mainnet.
OXEN is built upon the privacy technology of Monero, which is one of the most secure anonymous coins, featuring highly mature encryption technology, giving OXEN a high starting point. Additionally, OXEN improves upon Moneros encryption technology, notably by adopting Dashs masternode system, designing a comprehensive incentive mechanism to distribute rewards to nodes, expanding network performance while also increasing consensus strength.
However, both PoW and PoS hybrid consensus mechanisms face an issue: if mining rewards are too high, everyone will invest in mining equipment instead of buying coins to run nodes; conversely, if node rewards are too high, it reduces the cost for nodes to acquire OXEN, harming miners interests and reducing overall network hash power. Both scenarios are detrimental to network security.
Loki attempts to address this issue through an algorithm called Block Reward Balancing, which dynamically allocates block rewards between PoW and PoS miners. When the networks hash rate is low, the algorithm increases the reward for PoW miners; when there are too few service nodes, block rewards shift towards PoS miners.
The Whitepaper of OXEN introduces many other highlights, including ASIC resistance, Bulletproofs protocol, OXEN Message (an encrypted private messaging system), complete anonymity (most transaction information, including addresses and balances, remains hidden), and SNapps (a new concept allowing anyone to build service node applications).
Founding Team and Background:
CEO: Simon Harman, who modified Minecraft at age 14, began professionally developing websites at 16, and served as an event manager for three years before Loki.
CTO: Kaj Jeffery, passionate about whitepaper creation and interested in privacy protection technologies. Developed the first Android Monero mobile wallet for Monerujo and ran monthly Monero meetups in Melbourne, now leading the technology at Loki.
