Coin Intro "The QRL token is part of the Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) project, launched on March 21, 2017, with a total supply of 105,000,000 QRL.
The QRL project is a public blockchain ledger specifically designed to address advancements in quantum computing (QC). Unlike existing ledgers such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, QRL is dedicated to using post-quantum secure signatures for XMSS transactions.
QRL also employs a Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm that uses iterative hash chains and provably secure hash-based pseudorandom number functions. The PoS algorithm is designed to be independent of traditional signatures, which are vulnerable to sufficiently powerful QC, and allows nodes to run on low-power devices like Raspberry Pis or laptops, earning passive income through staking.
Several cryptographic systems are considered quantum-resistant: hash-based cryptography, code-based cryptography, lattice-based cryptography, multivariate quadratic equations cryptography, and symmetric-key cryptography. All these schemes are considered resistant to both classical and quantum computing attacks given sufficiently long key sizes.
Forward-secure hash-based digital signature schemes have minimal security requirements, relying solely on the collision-resistance of cryptographic hash functions. Changing the chosen hash function produces a new hash-based digital signature scheme. Hash-based digital signatures are well-researched and a leading candidate for future post-quantum signatures, making them the chosen class of post-quantum signatures for QRL.
QRL Founding Team and Background:
The team includes Michael Kolenbrander, Leon Groot Bruinderink, JP Lomas, Adem Bilican, Jack Matier, and Kaushal Kumar Singh.
The current price of QRL is $0.20704, with a 24-hour trading volume of $55.1177 million. QRL has decreased by 2.53% in the last 24 hours. It currently ranks 502nd on Beech’s market capitalization list, with a market cap of $14.0658 million USD. Its circulating supply is 67,937,100 QRL out of a total supply of 105,000,000 QRL."

Currency Introduction

The Quantum Resistant Ledger (QRL) project is a public blockchain ledger specifically designed in anticipation of advancements in quantum computing (QC). Unlike existing ledgers, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, QRL is dedicated to using a post-quantum secure signature for XMSS (eXtended Merkle Signature Scheme) transactions.

QRL also employs a low-power Proof of Stake (PoS) algorithm that again utilizes iterated hash chains and a verifiable hash-based pseudorandom function. The PoS algorithm is designed to be independent of traditional signatures, which are vulnerable to sufficiently powerful QC, and allows nodes to run on low-power devices like Raspberry Pis or laptops while passively earning rewards through staking.

Several cryptographic systems are considered quantum-resistant: hash-based cryptography, code-based cryptography, lattice-based cryptography, multivariate quadratic equations cryptography, and symmetric-key cryptography. Given a sufficient key size, all these schemes are believed to resist attacks from both classical and quantum computing.

Forward-secure hash-based digital signature schemes have minimal security requirements, relying solely on the collision-resistance of cryptographic hash functions. Changing the selected hash function generates a new hash-based digital signature scheme. Hash-based digital signatures are well-researched and are leading candidates for future post-quantum signatures. As such, they are the post-quantum signature class chosen by QRL.
