Golix was the only cryptocurrency exchange in Zimbabwe. Golix was an exchange geared towards digital currency players in Africa. In October 2017, the price of one Bitcoin on the Golix exchange was close to $10,000. On November 3rd, 2019, Tawanda Kembo, the founder and CEO of Zimbabwes Golix cryptocurrency exchange, claimed that he lost the password to the exchanges Bitcoin cold wallet. After this, Golix went silent and many of their users have still been unable to recover their funds from the exchange.
